Antelope Canyon was formed by water running through the sandstone and eroding it over hundreds of years leaving smooth edged rocks with swirling lines carved into the sandstone. As beams of light shine through the openings at the top of the canyon, the sandstone illuminates, highlighting purples, oranges and reds resulting in the stunning affect which can bee seen in photos.
Although photos of Antelope Canyon can be amazing, they really do not do this place justice and a trip to this Navajo canyon is highly recommended. To get strong colours you need to go in the summer months and at midday. However, this is also unfortunately when there are larger crowds, making it more difficult to photograph.
