North America, United States
Lake Tahoe is a crystal blue freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains which straddles the border between California and Nevada. With a depth of 1,645 feet it is the second deepest lake in the United States and the tenth deepest in the entire world! It is also incredibly beautiful with clear water and a backdrop of majestic snow-capped mountains and forests.
The Lake Tahoe region offers a huge variety of attractions. With 300 days of sunshine in an average year it is a fantastic place to spend some time in the outdoors. Come here in the summer months to enjoy swimming and a variety of water sports such as swimming, kayaking, rafting and windsurfing. During the winter months, Lake Tahoe enjoys an epic snowfall making for some spectacular skiing! We particularly recommend Heavenly on the California side of Lake Tahoe – at 4,800 acres it is California’s largest ski resort and its locations means you can ski in both Nevada and California in one day!
Hiking can be enjoyed year round – consider hiking to Vikingsholm Castle which is located at the head of Emerald Bay. It was built in 1929 by Mrs Lora Josephine Knight who wanted it to seem like an old Viking stone castle. It was a job well done as the castle is known for its excellent architecture and beautiful location.
If the great outdoors aren’t your thing then fear not as Lake Tahoe is also famous for its numerous casinos and flashy nightlife scene! The majority of the casinos are on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe and they offer everything from penny slots to high-stake poker games at a number of impressive venues such as Monte Bleu and Hard Rock Lake Tahoe.
However you decide to spend your time in Lake Tahoe you can be sure this will be a trip you won’t forget!
