Glacier National Park in Montana is a joy to behold; with a huge range of incredible scenery it is an outdoors lovers’ paradise! Expect to see rugged snow-capped mountains, perfectly pristine forests and tranquil lakes. It is famous for its hiking and with over 700 miles of trails available we can more or less guarantee that you will find a trail to suit your needs!
Highlights of this glorious park include the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Two Medicine and Many Glacier.
The Going-to-the-Sun Road is a 50 mile stretch of road that takes visitors through the park allowing them to access a variety of stunning places within the park. One of these is Lake McDonald Valley which once was home to several enormous glaciers but is now filled with all sorts of marvellous sights including, unsurprisingly, Lake McDonald itself. Lake McDonald is the largest lake in the park; it was formed by glacial carving and is truly beautiful. Also along the Going-to-the-Sun Road is Logan Pass; the highest point reachable by car within the park and a great place to spot wildlife with mountain goats, bighorn sheep and even the occasional grizzly bear having been seen in this area.
Two Medicine is an area of the park that was more popular before the opening of the Going-to-the-Sun Road as it was the primary destination for anyone travelling to the park by train. Nowadays visitors need to hike to get here and as such it is quieter than in the past, but with thundering waterfalls, glorious lakes and incredible views we assure you it is well worth the effort!
Many Glacier is considered by many to be the heart of Glacier National Park and with huge active glaciers, mountains, lakes and hiking trails, it is no wonder that this area tends to be a bit of a favourite with both locals and visitors. Many Glacier can be reached by car, foot, boat and horseback making it an accessible option for just about anyone!
Glacier National Park offers a wide range of accommodation with everything from grand hotels to lodges to campsites available. The park also has a vast range of restaurants and a number of camp stores.
The park is open year round but some activities are only available during certain seasons and so it is best to plan your visit carefully.
